Ronald McDonald House Charities

FOR THE 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR
THIS EVENT IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD BY RMHC--PLEASE DO NOT DECORATE BAGS OR CARING CARDS
YOU MAY SUBMIT POP TOP TABS INSTEAD

Bags must be the 8 lb. weight in either the Kraft brown or white.  You can purchase them at Wal-Mart for $2.00 for 50 bags.....You must use the bags in the ORANGE wrapper in order to receive credit for your work.

Why am I decorating these bags? To make a family member sitting at their child’s bedside smile. Sitting with a sick child can be a very stressful time. A bright and cheerful decorated bag or card can bring a smile to a parent’s face and may relieve some of that stress that they are going through.

Who receives the decorated bags? Mostly moms, dads, grandmas, grandads, aunts, uncles etc…. The patient (child) is often too sick or little (think babies) to see the bag.

What words can I put on the bags? Try to put yourself in the position of the person who may be getting the bag or card you’re decorating. Please don’t write on words such as - good job, congratulations, it’ll get better, you can beat cancer, well done graduate, happy birthday, this is a good day, have faith, religious references and similar words or sayings.

Some words and sayings which are more thoughtful could be – you have strength, we are thinking of you, enjoy this lunch or silly jokes or riddles.  you can find a ton of examples on Google....lunch puns, short silly riddles or jokes.

What pictures or drawings can I put on the  bags? You can be very creative with lots of color on BOTH sides of the bag. Cartoon characters (Disney, Looney Tunes, Cartoon Network etc.), animals, hearts, flowers and trees, abstract designs are all great to include, but be creative. Drawing scary pictures (frightening characters,
guns etc.) is not what we’re looking for.
FOR THE 2022-23 SCHOOL YEAR
YOU MAY EARN  UPTO 50 HRS.  100 TABS = 1 HOUR

The little, seemingly insignificant tab you pull to open your aluminum cans helps RMHC provide a safe and comfortable place for parents to call home, while their children recover in a nearby hospital.

The Pop Top program is an environmentally smart, community friendly program which focuses on separating the pull tab from the top of aluminum can.  The tabs are then recycled and proceeds go directly to families in need who are staying at the RMHC house.  All proceeds, stay in the Vegas valley.

  • Students can earn up to 50 hrs. per year with their donation.
  • Parents can earn up to 25 hrs. per year with their donation.
  • 100 tabs = 1 hour of service time....so, 5000 tabs will earn the full 50 hours for the year.
  • Tabs must be turned in in a Ziploc/grocery bag with the donation sheet filled out and attached (just fold up and put in the bag), in groups of 100. That means, do not turn in 150 tabs......turn in 100 or 200 or 300 etc.,
  • Hours must then be logged into x2VOL and they will then be approved off of the donation sheet.
